GIZZY LOCAL
At Gizzy Local, I worked as the Event Coordinator. Each week,
I curated events that aligned with our kaupapa and added them to our online calendar and weekly newsletter. I was also the communications point when organising an event to be shared through us. While in the role, I also introduced a weekly events poster—both physical and digital—which became a great addition to our platform’s visibility. I designed the posters, shared them across our social media channels, and distributed printed copies to key community hubs around town. When I had the capacity,When time allowed, I also organised and hosted events at the Gizzy Local hub space. I was in this role for seven months before heading to Europe; much of that time the building was undergoing earthquake strengthening, otherwise I would’ve loved the chance to run more community gatherings.

“Gizzy Local is a vibrant community initiative based in Tūranganui‑a‑Kiwa (Gisborne), founded in 2019 to foster genuine connection by sharing local stories, events, and creative energy. It operates as both an online platform and a welcoming physical hub at 64 Lowe Street, where people come together for workshops, live music, poetry nights, markets, art events, rangatahi expression sessions, and more.

In short, Gizzy Local serves as the heartbeat of its community—bringing people together, celebrating local culture, empowering creative voices, and championing inclusive spaces for everyone.”
